Luke Tolley, Ph.D.

Early in his professional career, Dr. Luke Tolley completed some of the initial work on what is now known as ultra-high-pressure liquid chromatography (UHPLC). During two years of postdoctoral research at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, he focused on microfluidics before joining the Chemistry Department faculty at Southern Illinois University where Dr. Tolley ran the forensic chemistry program and patented inventions, most notably dynamic isoelectric focusing (DIEF). Dr. Tolley returned to Utah in 2016 to again work with Dr. Milton Lee to help prepare the Axcend Focus LC® for its unveiling in early 2018 (at which time he joined Axcend® as Research Director, a position he held until mid-2019). Dr. Tolley received a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from the University of North Carolina, and he earned two bachelor’s degrees from Brigham Young University (one in Chemistry and another in Electrical Engineering).
